Best Filipino Comedy Movies 1980s

Let’s settle this the way our hilarious titos and titas would: with some friendly banter and a mandatory list! Seriously though, why are 1980s Filipino comedy movies still funnier than my last three family reunions?

Give me your ABSOLUTE must-watch Pinoy komedya films from the 80s. Is it Dolphy doing Dolphy things? Is it Tito, Vic & Joey making every scene look like an Eat Bulaga segment with zero commercial breaks? Did you ever try and copy Rene Requiestas’ punchlines with your classmates (and fail miserably)? And why does every comedy from that era include either a food fight, bed-slapping, or an obviously fake mustache?

Drop your favorites! Bonus points if you can actually find somewhere to stream them (I’m not above bribing my tita for her Betamax collection).

Brod, you nailed it! The absurd fake mustache budget of the ‘80s must have been wild. You forgot the other staple: every “serious” scene instantly ruined by someone pratfalling off a monobloc chair. Honorable mention to Working Boys-seriously, that Gwapings-meets-Golay crew still cracks me up, especially with that very, uhm, “authentic” disco dancing. Shoutout to Bondying: The Little Big Boy for giving us Rene Requiestas in full legendary sidekick mode-walang tatalo sa delivery niya.

For streaming? Good luck! Most are on YouTube in potato quality, but if you squint (and sip enough Ginebra), it feels like CinemaOne on a rainy Saturday. Pro tip: confiscate your tita’s VHS first because once she finds out you want to watch, she’ll charge per rewound minute.
