I’ve been watching some documentaries and reading up on different wedding traditions around the world, and I realized, we usually just talk about modern Filipino weddings-white dresses, Catholic church ceremonies, the usual stuff. But what about the truly traditional ones from way before colonization?
I read a few snippets about pre-colonial Filipino marriage rituals that involved things like exchanging gold, ritual baths, even shared eating from the same rice. I can’t find much solid info though! Does anyone have real stories, sources, or even family accounts about these kinds of practices? Are there places or indigenous groups in the Philippines where traditional marriage customs are still actively practiced today? How do those ceremonies look compared to what mainstream Filipinos do now?
Curious if anyone’s attended or even heard about an actual traditional Pinoy wedding, especially outside of what’s shown at festivals or cultural shows! Would love to see photos or hear about details if it’s not too personal to share.
