grabe PLDT fibr users, same issue ba kayo lately? akin 500mbps plan sa quezon city pero 2 weeks na, download speed 5mbps max, even wired. symptoms: speedtest.net shows download 4-8mbps, upload ok naman 50mbps, ping spikes to 200ms kapag peak hours (7-10pm). netflix buffers sa 480p, fb reels loading parang 56k modem. sobrang frust na, bills pa rin full.
una, sinunod ko common advice from r/PHinternet and fb groups: power cycle modem + ONT (unplug 10mins), check lan cable (binago ko pa cat6), speedtest sa phone/laptop/other device-lahat same. friends/family: “babe/restart mo router” or “tawag PLDT 171”. tumawag ako 3x, first “sir open daw line”, second “schedule tech visit next week”, third “sir normal lang yan heavy traffic”. walang nangyari, naghintay ng tech-dumating after 5 days, sabi “ok naman fiber signal -8dBm”, tweak lang attenuation then umalis. same shit after 1 day.
finally solved: nag-dig deep sa PLDT forum, nakita ko thread about DNS cache issue sa HomeFibr modem. changed DNS manually sa modem settings (192.168.1.1 login admin123 usually): primary 8.8.8.8 (google), secondary 8.8.4.4. boom, instant 450mbps down! turns out PLDT default DNS servers nila congested af, lalo na sa QC/Metro Manila peering. plus, bonus: firmware update via app nila (PLDT Home app), nag-update to v3. something, fixed yung ipv6 leak na nag-cause ng drops.
tips for kababayans:
- wag magtiwala sa “tech visit” unless signal strength below -15dBm sa ONT lights.
- always manual DNS sa modem, hindi sa device level-router-wide fix.
- use iperf3 app for local test baka wifi issue (akin wired pa rin slow dati).
- if unconvinced, screenshot speedtest + tracert google.com, attach sa 171 ticket para ma-escalate.
huwag na magbayad ng bill if hindi fix, demand credit adjustment. PLDT peeps, confirm if same fix sa inyo?
