bug report: pldt fiber na parang dial-up sa quezon city (fairview area)
grabe guys, last 2 weeks yung pldt ko talaga nagiging nightmare. symptoms: morning ok naman, pero pag 6pm onwards, super laggy-zoom calls sa wfh choppy af, netflix 480p pa rin buffering every 2 mins, even speedtest shows 5mbps down from supposed 200mbps. ping 300+ms, walang katuluyan. akala ko overload sa area kasi pandemic pa rin.
first, sinunod ko yung usual advice from fam and reddit r/ph: i-restart modem (yung huawei hg8245h), i-check lan cable (new pa nga), wag mag-torrent同時. even cleared browser cache, switched to 5ghz band. walang kwenta. tinawagan pldt 171, sabi nila “sir ok naman po lines niyo, try po mag-unplug ng 10 mins.” ginawa ko 3x daily, same shit.
then, nag-twitter ako @PLDT with screenshots ng speedtest and bill (tagged #PLDTsucks too para viral). after 2 days walang reply. finally, pumunta ako sa pldt branch sa regalado ave fairview, dala account number, id, and printout ng outage map from downdetector. sabi ng lady sa counter “sir full na po schedule ng tech.” sige na, nag-sipsip mode-nagbilin ng kape sa supervisor (P50 lang ha, walang suborn), explained na “bossing, wfh ako, nawawala income ko daily.” boom, next morning 9am may tech na! turns out yung drop cable sa poste nasira from typhoon aftermath (walang ganyan sa app nila), splice ulit tapos clean ng onu port. now stable 180mbps even peak hours.
tip for kababayans: wag time waste sa hotline, straight sa branch + social media pressure. kung may budget, mag-upgrade kaagad sa business plan (P1,500 extra pero priority queue). or hack: gamitin muna mo yung smart giga wifi hotspot as backup (P50/gb promo). never again magtiis ng free support. who’s dealing with same?
