Last month I tried renewing my passport from Canada through the DFA online portal for the Toronto consulate. Slots were booked weeks ahead and the site kept crashing while I was filling things out. I needed my old passport, birth certificate, ID photos, and proof of address here, and the fee was much higher than back home. It finally went through after two attempts, but the new one took a long time to show up in the mail. Is there any way to check appointment availability without going through that portal?
