How do I open a bank account in the Philippines as an OFW?

Tried the online route with one of the bigger banks a couple weeks back and it flagged my employment contract right away. Got me thinking about that time I walked into a branch with just my passport and they still needed a local ID I didn’t have yet.

What ID did you end up using for the initial setup?

That online flag on the contract sounds super annoying, especially when you’re already juggling everything from abroad. For the ID part, friends have mentioned getting a barangay certificate to kick things off before the PhilID arrives. Which bigger bank gave you the runaround?

BDO was the one that flagged the contract. beachbumcebu, the barangay cert didn’t get me past the local ID requirement either.
